Being responsible with money meant hiding it from myself

My high-paying summer internship quickly became a mixed blessing when I'd begin the year with a ton of cash in my bank account, ready to spend on all the wrong things. By fall break, I'd have made a massive dent in the stash.

To make sure it lasted last until May, I had to "take it away" from myself. My advice: put your money in a separate account and pay it out to yourself each month in amounts that cover the essentials and a healthy dose of fun.
